The sneaker's tumbled white leather upper is offset by a black leather mudguard and matching black leather overlays at the toe and heel. This iteration of the Air Jordan 3 commemorates the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Taking inspiration from the South Korean flag, the shoe features black, red, and blue accents on the inner lining and collar. The white upper, constructed from tumbled leather, includes the Jordan 3's signature elephant print panels. Korean characters appear on the inside of each tongue: '서울' (Seoul) on one side; the 1988 games motto, '화합과 전진' (Harmony and Progress) on the other.

The Air Jordan 3 Retro 'Knicks Rivals' boasts a colorway inspired by a team Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had to hurdle for Eastern Conference dominance, the New York Knicks. The AJ3 was the first of numerous Air Jordans designed by Tinker Hatfield and the debut of the Jumpman logo on the tongue. This 'Knicks Rivals' retro, released in September 2019, stays true to the original silhouette with a white tumbled leather upper, elephant print on the toe cap and heel, Old Royal and University Orange accents, and a visible Nike Air unit.

Based upon Tinker Hatfield's original sketches of the 1988 icon, the Air Jordan 3 Retro Tinker SP resurfaces with upgraded materials in a classic color scheme borrowed from another famous Tinker design. This March 2019 'Tinker Air Max 1' sneaker features a leather constructed upper with perforated detailing and a bold suede University Red mudguard. The Jumpman logo is embroidered on the tongue, while a Swoosh hits the lateral side that can be swapped out between three different designs. Tinker Hafield's signature is featured on the inside of the tongue, while the classic visible Air unit and NIKE AIR branding on the heel pay homage to the shoe's legacy.
